Selector impressing match up

A number of aspiring Steamers will rub shoulders with several players who have played against the best in New Zealand and overseas when the Bay of Plenty Wasps meet the Hawke's Bay Saracens at the Rotorua International Stadium today.

The game, which kicks off at 3pm, is a further step in the process to select the 2011 Steamers.


While the Bay of Plenty Steamers always show great pride when they play in the blue and gold uniform – the centennial year of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union brings additional incentives for this year's selections to perform on the field.

This is the fourth successive year the BOP Wasps have given their support to the selection process to choose the Steamers.

The Wasps Club is a group of former Bay of Plenty players and administrators who foster and support rugby in the region.

Two of the most exciting youngsters in Baywide premier club rugby this season will get their chance to rub shoulders with New Zealand Sevens star and current Steamer Lance MacDonald.

Te Amo and Te Hata Wilbore, who play for Opotiki Sports in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, have both been named on the bench for the Wasps selection.

A number of new faces to the Steamers fans will also make their entrance in the game.

Tauranga Sports tall timber Leon Power will be making his Bay of Plenty representative debut, with loose forward Matt Clutterbuck (Rangataua) another to wear a Bay representative uniform for the first time.
