A Tauranga petrol station is among only six nationwide offering regular grade fuel for less than $2 a litre.
The cheap petrol, priced at $1.989 is available at the unmanned Merivale Gull station on Fraser Street.
Gull Merivale on Fraser Street.
Gull general manager Dave Bodger says the drop will deliver significant cost savings for motorists.
'Most motorists still do want the traditional service station set up and Gull will continue to offer that, but for those in hurry or looking for exceptional fuel value these self serve outlets are ideal.”
Those wanting to buy fuel from the unmanned station in Merivale will have to pay using debit or credit card.
Other centres where the fuel will be dropped include Botany Downs, two stations in Hamilton, Taupo and Palmerston North.

I think you'll find its debit card only as they're saving themselves the cr card fees.

Gull has stated to us that the drive-thru stations accept both debit and credit cards.

Great news - that's a worthwhile saving
2.049 per liter

It is not under $2. Went there after 4 pm today pm and was charged 2.049 per liter . Sure it,s only 1.5 cents per liter , but Dave Bodger's claims don't stand up. When I called the company I was told it is only a special for tomorrow!!
Gotta love cheap fuel.

I love the cheap fuel from Gull Merivale. It is rather busy, due to the cheap fuel, but I can live with that minor hassle. Specially when it all comes from the same place (Marsden Point, or shared off the same imported ship).

I went after reading this article and the price was as per normal - $2.17 by memory. Pissed off honestly.

Sorry Jules but you are not correct. I have filled up there and paid by credit card. The only hassles I had were coping with the inadequate forecourt and the fact that receipts have stopped being avilable. Also the price "gap" between Gull and others has reducesd from 11 cents to about four cents. Still, you do not have to buy a lot of groceries to get the discount!!
1.94

We went there around lunchtime today and it was 1.94 according to the pumps. It sure filled up our vechicle alot more than it has done lately. Either way Gull is still the cheapest by far.
