On the court with Steven Adams

Former Rotorua resident and Oklahoma City Thunder NBA player Steven Adams is holding a sold-out basketball camp in Tauranga as part of a whistle stop tour with some of his Oklahoma City Thunder buddies.

The Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington camps are a charity event co-ordinated with local charity, Sports Pathways.

The Tauranga camp at the ASB arena next Saturday, August 27, is fully booked but sponsor Meadowfresh is enabling another 50 children to attend each of the camps.

The three training camps will see participants enjoy time on the court with Steven, working on their basketball skills, and most importantly, having lots of fun.

All kids who take part will receive a goodie bag with a basketball, cap, t-shirt, and lots of nutritious Meadow Fresh products.

Meadow Fresh has supported grassroots basketball in New Zealand since 2010.

'We have partnered with the NZ Breakers for the last six seasons to deliver the Meadow Fresh Champions programme in schools,” says Meadowfresh marketing general manager Rachel Ellerm.

'We are excited to now be supporting the Steven Adams Camps to help encourage more kids to try basketball.”

In addition to the 50 sponsored tickets to each camp, there will be an additional 20 tickets for each camp provided to Meadow Fresh fans on its Facebook page.

The inspiration to host the one-day basketball camps at three locations comes from Steven Adams commitment to New Zealand and supporting youth involved in basketball, says host Zak Lassey.

The camps are at:

Auckland, Wednesday, August 24, North Harbour Stadium, 8.30 – 3pm

Tauranga, Saturday, August 27, ASB arena, 8.30 – 2pm

Wellington, Sunday, August 28, ASB Stadium Kilbirnie, 9.30 – 3pm

Each camper in attendance will learn individual and team fundamentals from Adams and his Oklahoma City Thunder teammates and coaches, in an atmosphere where the young basketball players will have the opportunity to improve and have fun at the same time.

Youth of all skill levels ages 7-17 can register for the camp by going to http://www.stevenadamscamps.co.nz/

While in Tauranga Zak says Steven Adams and entourage will be involved in a number of low key local events and entertainment.
