What’s on: Rugby fans’ heaven

If MetService's prediction that this will be the last good weekend of winter, then make sure you get out and about around the Bay and enjoy the sun and fine weather today.

Rugby fans will be in heaven today with the Steamer's Mitre 10 Cup season opener against Taranaki at the Domain this afternoon.

To get into the swing of things, why not get down to Masonic Park on The Strand and enjoy a range of entertainment like circus performers, face painting, and live music from Ahjeez, Tauranga Samba, and Georgia Lines as part of the Fans in Town programme which is on from 11am to 1pm.

Don't forget – if you've got a ticket to this afternoon's Mitre 10 Cup match at the Domain you can travel for free on the BOP Regional Council's Tauranga Bayhopper network from 10am on game day, and departing from the Willow Street bus stops after the match.

Then the Bay of Plenty Steamers take on Taranaki in their Mitre 10 Cup season opener at Tauranga Domain, with kick off at 2.35pm.

Coach Clayton McMillan, who announced today he's extended his contract until 2019, says they've got some unfinished business with Taranaki after their 32-9 loss last year.
