Two Tauranga residents have been honoured as Members of the New Zealand Order of Merit on this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Mrs Ngaire Anne Guy, mother of Councillor Murray Guy, has been honoured for her contribution to music, and Mr Gregory Kenneth Jenks has been honoured for services to conservation.

Amongst other things, Ngaire is a Distinguished Branch member at the Institute of Registered Music Teachers for the Bay of Plenty, with the Associate of Trinity College London qualification in piano theory. She also has a Cup named after her – the Ngaire Guy Cup for Baroque period piano at the Tauranga performing Arts Competitions Society.

Gregory is part of the Dune Restoration Trust of New Zealand for the Bay of Plenty and has been instrumental in the dune restoration at Papamoa with planting sessions and erosion protection. He was also the Coast Care Coordinator at Environment Bay of Plenty.

There were also three recipients of the Queen's Service Medal (QSM) - Mr Frank Stewart Vosper and Ms Margaret Ethel Rex-Benner, JP, for services to the community and Mr Brian Joseph Palmer for services to search and rescue.
