RBHS winning streak in tact

In wet and trying conditions, the Rotorua Boys' High School first XV extended its winning streak to 13 against long time rivals Western Heights High School in the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Secondary School competition.

Marcus Hanley opened the scoring with a try, before Number 8 Matt Axtens, who finished off a long sequence of play close to the posts.

Axtens scored again as he dragged two defenders over the line from the back of the scrum.

Leading 17-3 at the break, replacement halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi grabbed his side's first touchdown of the second half.

Another to score twice was replacement hooker Mikey Bidois, who was rewarded with two excellent tries. Cyahn Tukaki and Joeli Nagera also grabbed touchdowns in the Rotorua Boys 43-8 win with Ryubyn Vaipo adding four conversions.

It was a game in which the Western Heights team never gave up the battle with Jordan Fiola crossing for a try with Brooke Amon dropkicking a splendid field goal.

The Rotorua Boys' second XV outpaced John Paul College to post a 71-nil victory. Phillip Togotogorua added to his season try tally with two touchdowns from the wing.

The Rotorua seconds are now primed to launch an assault on the Super Eight second XV competition.

While the Tauranga Boys' firsts against Te Puke High School will be played at a later date, the Tauranga Boys' second XV had a good battle with Opotiki College.

A 20-12 win to the Western Bay side, produced a game that went down to the wire.

Bethlehem College, stumbled in the race to find the top two sides in division two who will earn promotion to the top echelon in the second half of the season. Facing a fired up Otumoetai College in wet and muddy conditions, the first half was a real battle with Bethlehem missing several penalty goal attempts

Consistent pressure and sound tactical kicking from Keegan Long saw Otumoetai go over in the corner from a lineout to lead 5-0. Another try right on halftime saw them lead 10-0 at the break

A third Otumoetai touchdown in the second spell and further penalty saw Otumoetai stretch their lead – with a late charge down try to Bethlehem's Cory Seator resulted in Otumoetai College taking out the encounter 20-7.

The Bethlehem loss resulted in Trident High School, being the only div one team to possess an unbeaten record.

On Saturday, they ran away from Tauhara College to post a 53-5 victory, however, Bethlehem will have an opportunity to get on terms with the Eastern Bay School when they travel to meet Trident this Saturday.
