Inexperienced drivers going too fast for the wet conditions was the cause of two crashes on Sunday.
A car left the road at Hairini at 9.15am, ending up down the bank after leaving Hairini Road heading towards Turret Road.
Police were called to four separate crashes in the weekend. File photo.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says no one was injured in either crash.
A crash at 3.22pm on Waikite Road where a car struck a tree was another inexperienced driver, says Ian.
'Travelling too quickly down the hill, failed to take a corner in the wet conditions, and slid sideways into a tree.
'Extremely fortunate that no serious injury occurred. It just highlights the need for people to simply drive to the conditions.
'What that means quite simply, is take your foot off the loud pedal. Slow down and concentrate on what you are doing, instead of just assuming the car will handle exactly the same in the dry as it does in the wet,” says Ian.
'It's a no brainer really, but there you go.”
The only known injury crash of the weekend was at 7.05pm on Te Puke Highway.
A driver crossed the centre line and collided head on with an oncoming vehicle.
Ian says the driver was taken to Tauranga Hospital with what are believed to be minor to moderate injuries.
Police are still looking for the driver of the fourth crash of the weekend, which occurred in Cambridge Road around 4.20am on Sunday.
A car struck fence, and further down road has had secondary crash.
The driver left the scene and police are locating the vehicle's registered owner.
People with information about this crash are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.
Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

Clearly it is way to easy to get a drivers license in NZ.

If the driver did in-fact have a license, it should be revoked after this sort of thing. Maybe he/she should have been well rested before driving.

Have you been through the license procedure now days it is not that simple with some people failing theirs 4-5 times before getting their restricted unlike when you got yours I would guess. Once they have their restricted its like everything else you are inexperienced to start with. Or were you a pro as soon as you jumped behind that truck steering wheel.
