Work to stabilise a section of the rock face in the Waioeka Gorge on State Highway 2 will continue through next week, says the New Zealand Transport Agency.
NZTA contractors are currently carrying out rock-scaling works in the south end of the gorge at the bottom of Trafford's Hill in the Eastern Bay of Plenty which will continue until November 25.
This work will then be followed by rock-fall mitigation works at the same location from November 28 to December 2.
Motorists are being advised delays will be likely as the section of the gorge will be closed for periods of up to 15 minutes, and stop/go traffic management will be in place.
The NZTA recommends road users allow an extra 15 minutes for their journeys during these periods.
On Wednesday, SH35 between Maraenui and Omaio in the Eastern Bay of Plenty was closed for several hours following a large slip on the western side of the Motu Bridge.
The slip resulted in large boulders falling onto the highway and heavy machinery was required to clear them from the road.
The NZTA says the southbound lane of SH35 is still currently closed due to the slip and is advising drivers to take extra care when travelling through the area.
