Round six netball highlights

Round six of the Contract Mechanical Services Baywide Open saw the Marist Shakers come out determined for another win after narrowly losing by one goal to Trident in round five. Following a slow start, the team started to gain a lot of ball possession with some good intercepts by WD Ali Morgan and GD Jess Meade, with backup by Centre Jade Hemana.

The shooting combination of Jo Liddell and Jess Hathaway worked superbly with the players balancing the circle. GS Jo Liddell worked hard to attain possession and converted the majority of the goals. A change in the midcourt after the first quarter introduced Jess Meade to centre which proved to be invaluable as she injected plenty of speed and intercepts through court. Katie Snyman and Vanessa Bates worked well in the defence circle gaining lots of rebounds and sending the ball down through court. The experience of Kim Solomon coming on at three quarter time to the WA position brought a change of dynamic to the game with some accurate passing into the shooters.

Cornerstone came away with the win but it was a hard fought game. The momentum of the game was slow to get going and changes at half time, together with the benefit of fresh legs, injected the necessary enthusiasm into the team. Louise Harvey came on at GS and really opened the shooting circle. Takiri Butler and Sharmaine Bunting combined well in the midcourt giving the shooters some lovely ball.
