UPDATED 4.15PM: A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries following a collision with a car on 11th Ave this afternoon.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the crash occurred near the intersection with St John Street shortly before 4pm.
'Information from ambulance staff at the scene is the crash involved a car versus motorbike and the motorcyclist has been injured.'The position of the motorcyclist is at the moment blocking traffic, so if possible, people will need to avoid that area just until the patient is loaded into the ambulance”.
Reports are coming in of a traffic build-up on 11th Ave.
SunLive understands emergency services are dealing with a crash near St John Street.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says one person is being treated by St John Paramedics and a motorbike appears to have been involved in the crash.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area or be patient until the crash scene is cleared.
