Grassroots racing action, live music and all-day children's entertainment is galloping back into town with the return of the Interislander Summer Festival next January and February.

A firm favourite with Kiwis, the festival series boasts 36 events at holiday hotspots all over New Zealand and is the perfect family day out, says Racing Tauranga spokesperson Abbie Davie.

'The Interislander Summer Festival has carved out a loyal following in Tauranga over the past 11 years, and we're gearing up for another successful event.

'A day at the races is one of our great Kiwi summertime traditions and the festival offers a wonderful chance to experience the fun and excitement of country races.

Whether you're a first-time punter, a young family or a group of friends looking for a fun day in the sun, Abbie says the Interislander Summer Festival caters to everyone.

The festival features a full day of fantastic entertainment affordable for the whole family as it's free for children under 18 while tickets cost $5 for adults.

The kids will be spoilt for choice with the More FM Kids Go Racing area providing free activities for children under 12 and features a ton of competitions, activities and goodie bags.

The little ones will also have the chance to design racing silks for World Driving Champion Dexter Dunn to wear when he defends his title at the 2017 Championships in Canada. The colouring competition winner will win a set of racing silks for themselves which will be presented by Dunn.

'So gather up your friends and family, whip out your picnic blanket and your jandals, and prepare to relax while soaking up the summer sun.”

The Interislander Summer Festival is on at Tauranga Racecourse on January 2 and February 5, 2017.
