Team coach Rob Tinkler says in their opening game against South Africa, the first half was tense.

He says even though it felt like the team was in control, South Africa matched us goal for goal to be equal at 2-2 going into halftime.

'Much better connections between our forwards and backs in this game meant the overall team performance was much improved and helped by some individual efforts – we took the game 6-4.”

Andrew's mother Karen says she is extremely proud of Andrew and Anton with their selection into the New Zealand team.

'We are watching the games live online and it's amazing to see the puck skills and teamwork of the forwards, backs and goalie.

'I am very proud of how the team is working well together.

'They have had some high scoring games and also a couple of nerve raking games with close scores.

'I know the harder games are ahead of them and we are all wishing them well for the semi and final games.”

Karen says the New Zealand U19 women's and New Zealand U23 women's teams are also doing well in the round robin games and are at the top of the table.
