Video footage has emerged of two men involved in a fight on The Strand in Tauranga on Friday evening. Supplied Photo.

Two men involved in a road rage incident in the Tauranga CBD on Friday evening are being urged to make contact with police.

A witness, who's asked not to be named, sent video footage to SunLive of the altercation which occurred in the middle of the road on The strand shortly before 5pm.

'We were just sitting down having a quiet beer when it kicked off, this egg must be off his meds.

'I'm not sure what sparked the fight, I'd heard a car horn and the guy in the front must've taken exception to it.”

The witness has since passed on the video footage to police.

A spokesperson says police received a report of the incident from a member of the public at 4:45pm on Friday.

'Police are continuing with enquiries and urge either party involved in this incident to contact police.”

So people sit there, taking a video of this, and others stop and watch .. and not one single person gets off their butt and does something!? Disgusting! And yeah .. that was an assault! The only person with any common-sense, was the little kid at the end saying "get the registration plate number!!! " and he starts to read it out ..... Going by what he said, the police should have arrested the guy assaulting the person in the ute by now! Geez .....

Asking for trouble

In reply to Linaire, why would anyone want to intervene in that situation unless they are as big, or bigger than the thug. Sad but true, people put their own safety first.

ABSOLUTE COWARD!

Posted on 28-01-2017 15:59 | By Tamati TK

It is near impossible to defend oneself whilst seated in a vehicles drivers seat! All very well for the COWARD standing outside, behind the safety of the car door to repeatedly lay into the utes driver, whilst not allowing him to exit the vehicle. People do not realise the potential long-term damage that these downward blows to the head can inflict. Not knowing the full story, the simple fact is that this bit of footage shows a dangerous physical assault repeated time and time again. I expect to read of the arrest and charge of this COWARD. My advice for drivers in similar situations is to avoid any confrontation at all costs as you never know when you will be dealing with a deranged imbecilic moron and absolute COWARD such as this! If only we knew its name?

Cowards?

Posted on 29-01-2017 10:24 | By Baystyle

There are many cowards that sit behind a steering wheel and swear at and abuse other motorists who make a simple mistake. And who doesn't make mistakes? They may feel very powerful and righteous handing out retribution but perhaps not so brave when a big guy steps out of a small white car? Always three sides to every story and we don't know all the facts here. Lesson here is if you keep looking for trouble eventually you will find it.

Coward for sure!

Yes, we dont have the full story. Everyone makes mistakes and gets frustrated, and yes, many may hurl verbal abuse and even hand signals from time to time, but how does this make them cowardly? This makes them rude and insulting at worst. Fact as viewed, this chap got out of his vehicle, which immediately escalated the situation and then cowardly pinned the utes driver inside his vehicle when he tried to get out. The utes driver could not defend himself against an ongoing physical assault dealt out from the safety of standing behind the utes door. Sorry, but most definately call that cowardly! Very glad he has now been charged.

As motorists are we expected to never use our car hooters or offer any form of "contained" abuse, whether right or wrong for fear of being attacked and beaten whilst seated inside our cars? Or, do we equip ourselves accordingly in preparation, should we find ourselves in a similar situation? Get Real. In most road rage situations, the moment an aggravated driver steps out of their car, in a moving traffic flow, and approaches another driver (still seated in their car), the driver on foot becomes an immediate threat with possible intent to do who knows what! There may well be more to this incident, but from the footage commented on, the seated driver was an easy target, helplessly trapped in the confines of the cars drivers seat! What would you call this act? Big well done to the Tauranga Police for their swift action

the police should suspend rage road licences, and should have them treated they are psychopathic, and need psycholagist treatment for antisocial and violent acts.

This vile excuse for a human being should be banned from the roads with an uncontrollable temper like that!
