A 'weak” earthquake has been recorded near White Island this morning.

GeoNet says the 3.9 magnitude quake hit about 8.55am.

The earthquake was centred 60km north-east of White Island.

It had a focal depth of 87km.

No other earthquakes have been reported near the volcano this morning.
