Flooding forces Tauranga street closure

Surface flooding in Papamoa this afternoon. Supplied photos.

Surface flooding in and around Tauranga has forced the closure of at least one street.

A large deluge of rain this morning has caused surface flooding on Grenada Street.

A spokesperson for the Tauranga City Council says a section of Grenada Street, between Sandhurst Drive and Sunrise Ave, will be closed later this afternoon due to surface flooding.

'The road will remain closed overnight. 'The road closure will be reviewed tomorrow morning and monitored throughout the day.”

There are no other reports of road closures at this stage.

Meanwhile, flooding has also been reported in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Photos emails in to SunLive show the view from The Stand and then looking at the Bracken Street overbridge in Whakatane. The water levels are certainly on the rise around the Bay.

Wonder where all the rates money that TCC collected has gone to know? Still got flooding and not a 100 year storm as yet?

Am I missing something here. The sign says ROAD CLOSED and there are two cars driving along. What planet are they on or perhaps they are exempt

Papamoa - only one thing wrong

For such a large flat area - totally inadequate storm water drains/drainage.
