Te Puke thousands swarm All Blacks

Te Puke is buzzing with excitement as about 3000 people flocked to see All Blacks Dan Carter, Richard Kahui and Isaia Toeava at Jubilee Park.

Richard says he would be surprised if there was anyone in Te Puke not at the field.

Dan Carter teaches some ball handling skills to Marshal Poutai.

Steve Miln, the father of Rique Miln, who was selected as ambassador for the day by the NZ Rugby Union, says the day is going amazingly well.

'The turn out is massive. It is like being in Hollywood with the amount of flashes going off. It is great for the kids and for Te Puke.”

Local school children and junior club players did their best to evade Dan and Richard during a tough game of Rippa Rugby.

Steve says despite the pressure the three players are facing they seem to be very relaxed and are just enjoying the day.

'They seem unbelievably relaxed, which is great considering they are always under the pump – I suppose the real pressure will come in the upcoming weeks.”

Following a welcome address from Western Bay of Plenty Mayor Ross Paterson the boys got into some ball skill activities and refereeing some Rippa Rugby with local students and junior club representatives.

At 1pm the All Blacks will tour central Te Puke on foot, giving people at lunch the chance to meet them.

About 3000 people watched the mayoral greeting of the All Blacks at Jubilee Park.

Mayor Ross Paterson welcomes the All Blacks and their ambassador for the day eight-year-old Rique Miln.

Richard Kahui runs through some training drills with the children at Jubilee Park.

Richard Kahui takes in some classic Friday reading in the Western Bay of Plenty with an issue of The Weekend Sun.

After their time in Te Puke the All Blacks players visited Ultimate Motor Group at Mt Maunganui.
