Car crash causes traffic lights to fail

A car crash last night resulted in no injuries, but caused the traffic lights at Welcome Bay roundabout to fail.

A police spokesperson says they received a report of the crash at the intersection of State Highway 29 and Welcome Bay Road at 8.50pm on Saturday.

'There were no injuries, but one lane was blocked for a short time while the vehicle was removed from the scene.”

The crash did cause the traffic lights at the roundabout to flash yellow, however.

'Police received a call at 8.40am today alerting us to the fact the traffic lights weren't working. Tauranga City Council was informed.”

The police spokesperson could not say how long the traffic lights were out for.

Electricians were on the scene this morning, and had succeeded in getting the lights working again by 12.30pm.

A new pole to replace the one damaged in the crash will be installed tomorrow.

I use to come through there often withT@t and that fence is a terrible thing to have there as is the light pole it needs to be moved right back to a foot from that other piece of road and made wider and footpath moved right back as well, this would allow those SUPER QUADS to get a better exit from main rd through and able to line up for better EXIT to the Turret rd end, which is a joke, but what would i know, about this,as i havehad to put up with a lot of this rubbish on roads around Tauranga, anyway ,my thoughts only, i WISH TCC would listen to CONCERNS about these problem places, and act on them, this is the problem there,,Thankyou, Sunlive, and by the way is the BEST for NEWS,10-4 out, phew.

proving too difficult

......not sure in your world what a "Super Quad" is, but the reason the barriers were put there I would imagine would be for public safety..( at least theorectically, depending on how fast you can actually hit them!)...and have been in place and just fine for some time now. Was there "rubbish on the road" as you suggest do you know or was it just another turkey at work?..(turkey in this case being someone who thinks they can drive but actually cannot, at least safely, and even IF they are "unhindered" by substance, still manages to screw up big time).....whad'ya reckon?....
