I take on board the growing public opposition to the closure of the iconic Mount Sand Bar and I do not personally believe that it is necessarily a step in the right direction.
The decision to not renew the contract was not one made by all the councillors and was basically an operational decision made by the Summer Task Force committee, which has members from council staff, councillors, police, retailers but does include myself.
It was reported that the Sand Bar had only experienced one arrest in 8 years and my view is that, if its not broken don't fix it.
I hope that the decision to close this bar will not transfer a problem to other locations and I personally hope the bar returns next year.
