Police chase ends in arrest

Police chased a fleeing vehicle through Welcome Bay last night.

UPDATED: A 34-year-old man is facing a number of charges following a police chase through Welcome Bay overnight.

A car failed to stop when signalled to pull over by police at the Welcome Bay roundabout shortly before 11pm.

A man and a woman were taken into police custody a short time later.

A police spokesperson says the man has been charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and cultivating cannabis.

He is due to appear in Tauranga District Court today.

EARLIER:

Two people have been arrested following a police chase through Welcome Bay.

A car failed to stop when signalled to pull over by police at the Welcome Bay roundabout shortly before 11pm.

A police spokesperson says a short time later the car did stop and a woman was taken into custody.

'A man fled on foot but was tracked by a dog team and located at a house a short distance away.”

Police are still looking into the matter and there are no details about whether or not any charges have been laid yet.
