MP flies high for airshow

Tauranga MP Simon Bridges got the opportunity to experience the amazing aerobatic manoeuvres that people will see at the Tauranga City Airshow 2010 on Waitangi weekend.
Simon was given a flight demonstration by airshow director Andrew Gormlie in the CT4 Airtrainer.

Andrew flew Simon around the skies above Tauranga for about 20 minutes, performing aerobatic manoeuvres such loops, rolls, inverted flight and a stall turn – a move where the aircraft flies upside down for a period.
'It was a blast. We did a lot of serious rolls and dipping. You could feel the G-force on your face.”
'It was very exhilarating. My stomach was good afterwards but if I had to do if for an hour I don't think it would be.”
Simon is looking forward to the airshow and predicts the event will grow significantly over the next few years.
'It's a fantastic event for Tauranga. I feel confident in the calibre of the organisers and I think it will go from strength to strength.”
Andrew says the aerobatic manoeuvres he performed with Simon in the aircraft will be typical of what spectators will see on February 6.
Glenn Johnston is a member of the airshow's organising committee and says there is potential for the event to become the North Island's version of the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow.
'We want this to become an iconic event for the area so it's very important that someone like Simon is involved.”
'We are in this event for family entertainment. The more events of this kind that Tauranga gets, the more attractive Tauranga becomes,” says Glenn.
