A man disguised in a black wig and wearing black-rimmed glasses is at the centre of a bank robbery.

At around 12.25pm today, a man entered the ASB Bank located in the Base Shopping Centre in Hamilton.

"He presented a teller with a note advising he had a pistol and demanded a sum of cash, while threatening both the teller and others in the bank," says police.

"The man took a sum of cash before leaving the bank and departing in a blue Chevrolet Blazer 4WD."

He is described as Caucasian with an athletic build.
