Answers to a load of old rubbish

The “Waste “Space” – information kiosk on rubbish collection proposals.

Tauranga City Council took its vision for disposing of the city's rubbish out amongst the lunchtime CBD crowd today. And there wasn't a bin, bottle or rubbish bag in sight.

The TCC calls it the 'Waste Space” – a pop-up information centre aimed at dispending information and providing answers to questions about the proposed rates-funded kerbside rubbish collection services.

There are two proposals in the council's draft 2018-2028 long term plan to address the problems the city has with its current, privately managed kerbside collection services.

The first is a rates-funded rubbish, mixed recycling and organic garden or food waste collection service for all households by 2021.

And when a private collection providor stopped picking up glass at the kerbside, the council's also proposed its own interim glass recycling service – as soon as possible this year.

TCC says it'll cost ratepayers $22 per household per year

Both these proposals are aimed at increased recycling and sending less to the landfill.

Tauranga residents need to have a say on these proposals in order to make them happen and have until April 16 to make submissions on the long term plan.

If you need more information visit the 'Waste Space” between midday and 3pm weekdays and midday to 2pm on Saturdays.

'Waste Space” will be at Greerton Square until next Wednesday, March 28. It will be Salisbury Avenue in Mount Maunganui from Thursday March 29 to Monday April 9. It will be closed all Easter weekend and then back in Red Square from Tuesday April 10 to Monday April 16.

If you want to have a say in protecting the environment and the city, now is the time to act.

This would be the best deal around at just on 43 cents a weekly pick up, will drive all the private contractors broke.
