Evidence as we understand it

Re A McLeod's letter in The Weekend Sun, March 9. He severely criticises Pastor Greg Burgess for his attempts to explain aspects of Christian faith and understanding. But this is what a Christian should do – proclaim and also explain.

As for ‘just discuss faith'– we all have faith by evidence, not proof mostly since ‘life' is a mystery, but a reality. A McLeod places his own faith in the theory of evolution by evidence as he understands it. Others place their faith in a creator, also by evidence.

Nobody was there at the beginning, which is why we should agree to disagree over such awesome considerations, but there are increasing numbers of scientists, historians, archaeologists etc. who believe creation science to be true, and from pond scum to human evolution to be impossible.

Remember too that Darwin was not known to be an experimental scientist, but more a philosopher whose books reveal this fact. Much of his work was the result of assumptions rather than scientific evidence.
