Driver takes wrong lane on busy road

A vehicle has been filmed driving the wrong way up Waihi Road (WARNING: Video contains harsh language). Video: Paul Wannop.

Video footage shared on Facebook has captured the moment a car drove the wrong way up a busy Tauranga road.

Local man Paul Wannop filmed the incident, in which a car can be seen driving in the wrong lane up Waihi Road towards 11th Ave.

Paul says he and his partner were on their way to McDonald's when they saw the car pull out of the Koromiko Street roundabout and start heading up the wrong side of the road.

In the video the car can be seen keeping to left of the two lanes – although both of these lanes are for oncoming traffic.

'I do believe one hundred per cent they were foreign drivers,” says Paul, who describes the occupants of the vehicle as two Indian men. 'I don't know if they realise they were in the wrong.”

He says they followed the car up towards McDonald's, where it stopped in the middle of 11th Ave.

'It was clear they didn't know where they wanted to go. I posted the footage on the Tauranga Buy/Sell/Swap page, and a guy commented that he thought he'd seen them coming back from Rotorua all over the road. Another person said he saw the same car going down Cameron Road stopping all the time, not knowing what they were doing.”

Paul says he was unable to report the incident to police as he didn't get the car's plate number.

Police encourage drivers to dial *555 free from a mobile phone to report road incidents which are urgent but not life-threatening.

'This includes such things as non-injury crashes, erratic driving, traffic congestion, breakdowns and obstructions on the highway.”

It just proves its the idiotic untrained drivers that cause crashes on the road, not the road itself. I have seen many instances were drivers take short cuts or think they can drive on any section of road thats available, including footpaths. Drivers cause accidents not roads.

So no comments from Maildrop and Penguin about bad driving in the daily bad incidents by car drivers. Seems they just have a vendetta against trucks and their drivers... go figure.
