Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler says a scene examination has been completed and all witnesses have been spoken to.
"The man's next of kin has been advised and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
"A post mortem has been scheduled for today in Auckland."
