Bay XI beats ND Academy

Several members of the Bay of Plenty wider training squad did there chances of selection in the Bay representative team this season no harm when a Bay of Plenty XI comfortably defeated a Northern Districts Academy team at the weekend.

Batting first at Bay Oval, the Bay XI got away to a flyer with openers Joe Carter and Tim Clarke putting together a 106 run partnership.

Carter who played two games for the Bay first XI near the end of last season, grabbed a half-century, posting his side's top score of 52.

Clarke, who is the incumbent Bay wicketkeeper was rewarded with 30 runs, while Mitch McCann who was another to make his Bay of Plenty senior men's team debut last season, reached 28 before being dismissed.

Mathew Singh was the best of the opposition bowlers taking two wickets at a cost of 16 runs.

The Bay of Plenty total of 225/9 was never under threat as the Bay of Plenty bowlers never let the ND Academy batsmen settle in at the crease.

Amandeep Singh, who is seeking a return to the Bay ranks after a five year absence, showed plenty of his customary pace with the ball to return 2/22, with Tony Goodin and Daniel Hill both taking three wickets apiece.

The contenders for the Bay side now have a nervous wait until the team to play at the ND one-day tournament 13/15 November 2011 is announced.
