A packed-out home crowd has paid witness to an impressive win secured by Whakatane Roller Derby over Rotorua, at the team's first game of the season.
WRDL's Brawl Stars played Rotorua's Sulphur City Steam Rollers on Saturday night as a part of the New Zealand National Roller Derby Top 10 Tournament.
League spokesperson Dylan Henderson says the game was fast-paced, very physical and the crowd turn-out was amazing.
'This was the biggest turn out we've had in a long time. We were so happy to see the stands full of people who were mostly experiencing roller derby for the first time.”

Rotorua came out strong and kept Whakatane on their toes in the first half, but the second went to WRDL as the points-gap grew quickly, says Dylan.
'The bout concluded with a 288-118 win for Whakatane.”
Whakatane's next home game will be held July 28.
