'If anyone has any information, photos or video footage that can identify the dogs responsible, please contact Council on 07 577 7000.

'Please ensure all pets are safe and secure while Animal Services conducts its investigation.

'To report a roaming dog or a dog attack please call Council on 07 577 7000 – our customer service centre is available 24/7.”

the normal TCC attitude only action is after the fact

More needs to be done

I recently had four separate incidents of roaming dogs entering my property and killing my chooks in a two week period, and the council didn't so much as return my call. They definitely need to make more of an effort where animal control is concerned - we have only one Dog Control Officer assigned to our entire area (Paengaroa, Pukehina, Maketu etc) and he's spread so thin that it's impossible to get any action on complaints even when you know what address the dog comes from. If you contact them about a roaming dog, they actually instruct you go and catch it yourself and then call them back - this seems like very bad advice.

Agree, must do more

I've recently had several roaming cats fighting over crapping rights in MY veggie beds. I'm getting a dog.

Lock up your cats too. I too am sick of cat poo in my vege garden, cat spray all over my BBQ and external doors/walls, and listening to cats scrapping or seeking mates all night. ALL pet owners need to be responsible for their own pets.
