Cadets and Greerton post wins

While wet weather in the Bay of Plenty curtailed most cricket in the region – one game that was completed in fading light saw Element IMG Cadets defeat Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui.

Batting first, defending BOP Cup titleholders, Mount Maunganui, made slow work of batting first to reach 157/9 in their allotted 60 overs.


Mount skipper Daniel Hill top scored for his side with 41, with Sean Davey and Campbell Wilson taking two wickets apiece.

With just 20 overs available under the revised batting formula, Cadets went on the rampage smashing 159 for the loss of four wickets.

Joe Carter went to town to smash 46 from just 26 balls, with Jono Boult (40) and Trent Boult (38no) in similar attacking action, with the game ending in the 17th over.

The second BOP Cup game to post a result saw Eves Realty Greerton defeat BOP Indians at Boord Park in Rotorua.

The Indian team batted first and were dismissed for 134, with Shane Wineti returning bowling figures of 4/32, with Sebastian Braat taking three wickets.

Greerton quickly warmed to the task, and got home for victory with seven wickets to spare. Dutch age group player James Gruijters, who is spending the summer playing for the Western Bay side, top scored with an undefeated 54 runs.

Shane Wineti backed up his four wickets with a crisp 34 while Bay rep Brett Hampton posted 24 not out.
