Street performances from samba groups and other others will add a dash of colour to the fresh asphalt at the Welcome By underpass on Sunday.

From 10am until 3pm the public will be able to walk through the underpass and inspect the $45m project.

The NZ Transport Agency is advising the public to park at Toi Ohomai campus or Waipuna Park to catch free buses into the site. Or use the recently completed Poike shared path to get to the event.

The open day is on rain or shine. There will be marquees, and the underpass itself for shelter.

Entertainment includes performances by local musicians, and artists. There will be food, refreshments and craft for sale from community vendors.

There's also a ‘trial an electric bike' opportunity thanks to the team at electrifynz, and an opportunity to be in to win an electric bike valued at $2795. Draw will be held on 29 May 2018. There will be one winner.
