Tauranga has been announced as the host region for the Trustpower National Community Awards, which will be held in March 2019.

The Trustpower Community Awards is one of New Zealand's largest recognition programmes for voluntary groups and organisations.

The Trustpower National Community Awards, the highlight of the Trustpower Community Awards calendar, is a three-day event which will see around 150 people come together in Tauranga for the 19th annual awards event.

The Trustpower Community Awards programme, which recognises voluntary groups and organisations, is run in 26 regions around New Zealand in conjunction with local city and district councils. Supreme Winners from each regional Trustpower Community Awards attend the Trustpower National Community Awards, together with their local mayors and invited guests.

Trustpower community and communications advisor Abbie Siely says in addition to recognising and promoting the work of volunteers, the Trustpower National Community Awards offers an opportunity to showcase the host region.

'We are so excited to be hosting this prestigious event in Tauranga. It's the home of Trustpower's head office and we're thrilled to share the venues, facilities, activities, scenery and hospitality that make our hometown so spectacular with this group of inspirational and deserving visitors from all corners of New Zealand,” says Abbie.

Tauranga City Mayor Greg Brownless says he is looking forward to hosting the Trustpower National Community Awards in his city.

'Community groups and their volunteers are crucial to our Tauranga lifestyle. We are excited about the national awards coming to the Bay of Plenty and showcasing our district and all we have to offer. Our council supports awards such as this and encourage the community to nominate deserving groups.

'We look forward to having the best voluntary organisations in New Zealand uniting here in Tauranga and sharing their stories with us.”

The hosting region for the Trustpower National Community Awards alternates each year between the North and South Islands, with Trustpower preferring to hold the event in provincial New Zealand or where the company has a strong customer base. This year's Trustpower National Community Awards took place last month in Queenstown.
