Antenatal classes without leaving home

A Tauranga couple have started up another online antenatal service.

Hatched Antenatal launched its online antenatal classes today, recognising that human behaviour has changed.

Learning from a qualified midwife in the comfort of your own home is an entirely new approach to professional antenatal care, says Hatched founder and midwife, Carmen Lett.

'People are now comfortable learning content online and the busy lives modern consumers lead, mean they're always looking for more convenient ways to live.”

The online service is recommended for expectant parents who live rurally, for one or both partners who work long or unusual hours, for a prospective mother who's been put on bed rest, and those who live busy lives and can't commit to a class.

Carmen Lett says she started Hatched because she believes the quality of antenatal education available in New Zealand, and globally, could be improved.

'As a midwife of 10 years and mother of 4, I believe it's crucial that parents are prepared for any eventuality in labour and feel great about whatever type of birth they end up having.”

The online classes also focus on the early days and weeks of parenthood, including plenty of practical tips and advice on how to care for your new born – the aim being to equip mothers to feel confident and prepared for parenthood.

While there are already online antenatal classes available, Carmen says parents need access to expert insights and professionally delivered learning.

They can now access Hatched Antenatal information whenever and wherever they want.

Some of our best friends we met at antenatal classes. Great network of support and socialisation for new mums and dads. Many coffee mornings and dinners with babies in tow. Our children are all in their 20s now but we still meet up. Some with grandkids in tow now!
