Robbers armed with a toy pistol stole a man's hat and wallet from him as he strolled a Thames street.

Police are now looking for the thieves who took off on foot heading towards the skate park of the Coromandel town.

Police were notified of the street robbery at 1.30pm on Saturday.

At least two male offenders had approached a 28-year-old man on Mary St, not far from the Goldfields Pak N Save, says Waikato Police Senior Sergeant Will Loughrin.

They pulled an imitation pistol out and threatened the victim, he says.

"The offenders have taken off with clothing items and the man's wallet."

They were last seen heading towards the nearby skate park.

Police attended and spoke with the victim who was uninjured, says Will.

"Police are still making inquiries and working to identify the persons involved."

If anyone saw the culprits, or have any information they are asked to call Hamilton police on 07 858 6200, or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
