Impressive batting totals posted

Both Bay of Plenty Primary Cricket teams posted large totals in the opening round of the Northern Districts tournament played at the weekend.

In Matamata, BOP Lakeland batted first against Waikato Valley South and was in control from the start.


The team drawn from the Eastern Bay, Rotorua and Taupo, blasted 245 for the loss of just four wickets in there allotted 40 overs.

Alistair Blackett was in sparkling form and top scored with 66 runs.

A 127 run partnership with Dylan McDonald for the second wicket set up the Bay team's innings.

Further down the order, Hayze Perham took to the Waikato Valley bowling blazing away to smash 45 runs of just 25 balls.

A fifth wicket partnership with Liam Murdock produced 86 runs.

However, the game petered out to a draw when the heavens opened with the Waikato Valley team 18 without loss when stumps were drawn for the day.

BOP Coastland returned from Gisborne with a victory over Poverty Bay.

Batting first, Jamie Oakley took control of his team's batting to top score with 50 runs, as his side was dismissed for 178.

Joe Robinson also played a big part in his teams score, putting together a well-constructed 21 runs.

A 42 run second wicket partnership from the home side, saw the opposition starting to take control.

However, three wickets from Bay bowler Carlos Price well and truly turned the tide in the Bay team's favour.

Enter Jamie Oakley with his off-spinners who finished off Poverty Bay.

In a remarkable first over, Jamie took three wickets and was on a hat trick after two successive wickets.

Poverty Bay was dismissed for just 81 with Jamie finishing with the outstanding bowling figures of four wickets for two runs of 3.1 overs.
