A mini tornado is reported to have blown through Greerton this morning.

A SunLive reader emailed in to say a mini tornado just went through Greerton main street,

"Not much damage but sent the big orange roadwork hoardings flying and road workers running in all directions to stop them hitting traffic.

"They did a real good job. Wind sure shook the car around "

A severe weather warning is in place for the Bay of Plenty as an active front moves over New Zealand.

Heavy rain is expected throughout the day, with strong westerly winds easing later this afternoon.
