The weather is causing havoc in many places across the country with several road closures.

SH 25a Kopu to Hikuai in both directions, SH 25 Manaia in both directions, and SH 25 Whitianga to Kaimarama have all closed due to slips and flooding.

Police say there is surface flooding affecting roads in Tairua in the Coromandel.

State Highway 25 south of the township is nearly underwater.

Police are urging motorists in the Coromandel to delay non-essential travel as heavy rain causes flooding in the area.

The flooding is expected to worsen this evening due to high tide at 9pm.

Police are advising people to delay their travel until tomorrow morning if possible, or drive with extreme caution and follow the direction of roading contractors and emergency services.

Miranda Road, Kaiaua, is also closed near Findlay Road. Traffic is being diverted at the intersection of East Coast Road, Miranda Road and Front Miranda Road. Motorists are advised to please avoid the area if possible.

"There are no other known road closures or issues at the moment, but motorists are advised to exercise care, avoid unnecessary travel, and be on the lookout for surface flooding, potential slips and debris on all Hauraki roads today," says Paula Trubshaw from Hauraki District Council.
