East Bay United at home to Te Puke

The quiet achiever of the BOP Cup is East Bay United, which sits in the top four of the Baywide cricket competition.

With two wins and just a solitary loss, the Eastern Bay side has the opportunity to cement its top four position when they play Te Puke at Rex Morepeth Park this weekend.

Last weekend they showcased their top class bowling attack when they rolled Rotorua Boys' High School for just 69 runs at the Rotorua students' headquarters.

Bowling first, Dean Butterworth and James Mitchell ripped through the Rotorua Boys' batting to grab five wickets apiece, to set up a comfortable victory.

However, Te Puke is likely to provide a real challenge for the home team.

Last weekend, they dug deep to chase down 211 runs against Rotorua Central to sneak home with one wicket to spare.

Former Bay of Plenty representative batsman Tai Bridgeman-Raison leads the Te Puke team with purpose and authority.

Another who can be difficult to dismiss at the batting crease is Mitch McCann who can bat for extended periods.

A top of the table clash will take place at the Tauranga Domain when competition leader Tauranga Boys' College meets second placed Element IMF Cadets.

In spite of a one wicket loss to Eves Realty Greerton last week, Tauranga Boys' kept their lead at the top of the standings courtesy of the bonus points they picked up.

Cadets have posted an undefeated season record, albeit with a bye and a rained out encounter.

Both teams will bring a genuine top class all rounder to the top of the table match-up.

Cadets skippers Jono Boult who played for the Northern Knights last season, is a quality top order batsmen and a genuine wicket taker with the ball.

Tauranga Boys' teacher Mark Orchard, who coaches the school first XI, is a former ND professional player who is equally adept with both bat and ball

A battle of attrition could take place at Boord Park in Rotorua when Greerton travels to play iTCo Central.

While both teams have strong line-ups on paper, inconsistent form has cost both sides in the last couple of seasons.

However, both Greerton and Central have extra firepower this year.

The Western Bay club has a trio of Dutch Academy players join the team, with Central picking up several players from Eastern Pirates which are not fielding a premier team this year.

Defending BOP Cup titleholders Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui lurk in third place on the standings, and are expected to have little trouble with BOP Indians at Blake Park.

BOPCA Baywide BOP Cup Draw 12 November 2011
