Bay thrashed by Hamilton

There will be plenty of soul searching in the Bay of Plenty cricket team after they were comprehensively beaten by Hamilton at the Northern Districts One-Day tournament.

After winning the toss, Bay of Plenty elected to bowl first on Sunday at the tournament being played in Taupo.

Hamilton took to the Bay bowling attack to post an impressive 315/5, with Brook Hatwell (91) and Mike Dodunski (85) in rampant form.

Tony Goodin was the best of the Bay bowlers returning 2/48.

While the Bay of Plenty top order made a promising start, no-one kicked on.

Bay of Plenty opening batsman Peter Drysdale top scored with a gritty 46, with Bharat Popli (32) and Jono Boult (27) getting starts.

However, the required six runs an over proved too much for the Bay side and they were dismissed for 164 to hand Hamilton an easy victory.

Day two brings another stern challenge for the Bay of Plenty side when they meet Counties Manukau.
