Place earned in NZ Cup final

Tauranga Intermediate has earned a ranking in the top four New Zealand Primary cricket schools in the country after defeating Belmont Intermediate from Auckland.

Not only did the Tauranga School win the New Zealand (formerly Milo) Cup northern region final, but they earned a berth at the national final to be played in Palmerston North November 29-30.

The New Zealand Cup national final brings together the top four primary teams from four regions throughout the country in head-to-head competition to find the best primary school cricket team in New Zealand

Belmont batted first and set the Western Bay School a respectable target when they finished on 92/9.

Josiah Turner took three wickets for 16 runs with Ben Campbell returning 2/11.

Callem Taylor bowled extremely economically to take one wicket for just seven runs.

The homeside took little regard for the near 100 run target and coasted to a seven-wicket victory.

Tom Renouf produced a man of the match performance with a stylish 34 not out.

Jamie Oakley provided plenty of support with a crisp 20, with Chris Wooller there at the end with an unbeaten 13 runs

The nature of the empathic Tauranga victory was shown by the seven overs that they had in hand at the end of the encounter.

After the latest victory, the Tauranga boys have their sights firmly set on the national title.
