A Gawith, in the first of two recent letters ‘Jury out on climate change' (The Weekend Sun, July 20), should note the scientific jury returned its verdict decades ago: mankind is guilty! We are all now facing our ‘sentence' of more frequent damaging storms, record heatwaves, wildfires, and sea level rise.

R Colmore, in ‘Sun controls our climate' (The Weekend Sun, August 3), is partially correct there but its full effect is greatly modified by atmospheric gases. Scientists have been factoring the ‘real science' he quotes into their climate models for many years, but these natural factors alone fail to account for the big changes already observed.

For instance he says ‘we have just gone for 120 days into…the Eddy [solar] Minimum', like those previously associated with northern hemisphere cooling, but in fact the reverse is occurring. A Washington Post article in the BOP Times (July 28) says it all: ‘How climate change supercharged a hot, dangerous [northern] summer'.

Both correspondents should read it to help them understand that the claim, ‘climate change is the greatest scientific scam in history', is itself the deliberate lie, initiated by the big oil companies and enthusiastically endorsed by many worldwide. Nature is now responding!
