Police have laid charges against a 24-year-old woman following the death of toddler Comfort Joy Witeri-Thompson.
The 18-month-old died in Waikato Hospital on July 2 following an incident at a Tirau address.
"The woman's charges are in relation to alleged offending against Comfort, but not in relation to her death," says Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Cranshaw.
"She appeared in Rotorua District Court this morning."
Further charges are likely as the investigation into Comfort's death continues.
"As this matter is now before the court Police cannot comment further."
