New Zealand middleweight Andrei Mikhailovich (4-0) continued his impressive start to his professional career, with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Simon Julian (3-5) on Saturday night at a packed ABA Stadium in Auckland.

Mikhailovich established control of the fight early on and maintained it until the final bell.

Julian, entering the ring as the 11th ranked middleweight in the country, was determined and resilient throughout the entirety of the six round contest and forced the 20-year-old Mikhailovich to work hard for his victory.

After the fight the Opunake born Julian, speaking to Gladrap, announced his retirement from boxing after eight years fighting on the local scene.

'I knew I was in for a long fight tonight,” Mikhailovich said following the bout.

'I am pretty happy with my performance; I think I showed a good boxing display tonight. I thought it was one of my best boxing displays I have put on.

'My first three fights, it took me a long time to get settled. When you are doing six rounds you got to relax, and that's what I tried to do, just relax and get into the groove. Now I am starting to do that and doing interesting stuff, you see me whacking down their hand and throwing my right hand, you see me tripling me up on my right hand and doing triple left hooks.”

Mikhailovich will look to fight three more times this year. While his opponents have yet to be announced the primary goal for Mikhailovich is to keep busy, continue building his skill set and position himself for even bigger fights next year.

Mikhailovich's win capped a successful night for Peach Boxing with all four of the gym's fighter's walking out of the ring victorious. In the co-main event of the evening, Reuben Webster (9-2) took home a unanimous decision victory over Robert Ramsay (0-6).

Webster, backed by his vocal supporters put on a strong performance against a competitive and motivated Ramsey.

'It's good to fight here back in N.Z., pride and joy to be back here, it felt electric,” Webster said following the bout.

'It's been the first time this year that I got to fight back here in NZ, and they all figured they would come out here and show their support so I figured I would showcase some skills and put on a display,” he said when commenting on the large turnout of supporters that were backing him.

It was the 23-year-old's first fight on home soil since 2017, and the win sees him retain his number three New Zealand middleweight ranking.

Earlier in the evening New Zealand Professional Boxing Commission cruiserweight champion David Light (7-0) defeated Thomas Russell (0-6) via TKO in the third round.

It was a professional and controlled performance by Light who had previously defeated Russell back in June.

Russell came out ready to trade punches as soon as the first round began and had some success in the opening stanza. However, as the fight progressed Light started to dominate and by the third round was in full control.

Alistair Boyd (1-2-2) was the first Peach boxer in action on the night and claimed his first professional career win. After two losses and two draws the victory came as a relief to the hardworking Auckland based fighter.

Boyd defeated Delrae Robati (0-3), who was forced to retire at the start of the third round after a shoulder injury meant he was unable to continue the contest.

'It's been a lot of work and a long time coming, first six months going pro, I had 2 fights and lost both of them to Zane Hopman and Evander Tia,” Boyd said.

'Earlier on this year I fought Evander again and got the draw which was a bit devastating as we worked hard for that one. Then a fortnight later I fought Joshua Francis and got a draw again, and I thought I was just destined to get draws.”

The 31-year-old would like to return to the ring later this year as he seeks to build on Saturday's performance.

The first professional fight of the night featured former New Zealand amateur champion Alex Hanan (8-0) taking on Matthew Tuakolo (0-5) in a middleweight clash. Hanan, originally from the South Island is now based in Sydney, where he has been building a reputation for himself as an up and coming talent.

Hanan defeated Tuakolo via TKO just before the close of the second round.

The 19-year-old is set to fight again in November in Sydney against a yet to be announced opponent.
