A work wanted sign put up in the middle of a grass island has been causing traffic delays.
A member of the public says that the work wanted sign got put up on the median strip approaching the Turret Road bridge.
'People are slowing down to read it causing a backup of traffic back under the Maungatapu underpass and up the hill to the Maungatapu roundabout,” says the member of the public.
'The roundabout is normally flowing easily at 6.45am.
'Frustrating, it's bad enough the congestion in the mornings with that adding to it.”
SunLive approached the Tauranga City Council for a comment about this issue and it says the sign has now been removed, as it breached there street use and public places bylaw.

thats why the traffic is piled up, nothing to do with one sign................ good on the person whos looking for work, but where it is might not be the best place.
People dont see signs

I struggle to see how this one sign has any effect with the traffic. It is out there amongst other signs that nobody seems to take any notice of, so why would this sign be any different? It is out there, with Temporary 50kmh speed restrictions signs - nobody has seen those. There is also a "Merge like a Zip" sign posted near the end of the merging lane - nobody has seen that either! I am appalled at the high number of inconsiderate drivers along this stretch of road and throughout Tauranga. Oh, and traffic lights seem to confuse people here also. Orange does not mean go faster! As for the sign, I admit I havent been able to read it all while passing it, as its quite wordy, but good on the person who has done this. I wish her luck with the job hunting.
Really?

What utter rubbish. I have not noticed any slow up, its situation as normal-shite. This new system has cost millions and no real relief. 22 minutes from Welcome Bay dairy(not as far up as the shops) to 11th Ave on Wednesday. And its the fault of the sign!!
Agree but don't agree

I agree with Angel74. Good on her for trying to find work in any manner possible. More unemployed people need to take some innovative steps to put them at the front of the work queue. And come on people, stop blaming traffic issues on the inconsequential things (like signs)... Vent your frustrations where they belong. Start taking your own steps (Shock, horror!) where you can obviously (waiting for the barrage of comments here) to car pool, bus, cycle etc. Every single person doing this is ONE LESS car on the road, and less time wasted in traffic. Actually I just may have a t-shirt made up and give it out to cyclists and bus users. Not a sign of course. Wouldn't want to upset traffic.
