Bay sides dominant

Dominant performances from two Bay of Plenty Primary representative cricket teams have put the sides in the box seat as they chase the Northern Districts championship title.

BOP Coastland totally dominated the round two encounter against Waikato Valley South at Pemberton Park in Tauranga.

Batting first, the Bay side blasted 316/3 in the 40 over per side match.

The opening pair of Ruben Clinton and Josh Earle put together an outstanding first wicket partnership of 155.

Josh Earle took to the opposition bowling from the outset and was rewarded with 63 runs.

While Ruben was a little more circumspect early, he went on to carry his bat with a magnificent unbeaten 123.

His pull shot was superb with his 123 runs coming from just 111 balls.

Caleb Box also made a solid contribution with 27 runs, before being run out seeking a tight second run.

The second wicket partnership with Ruben was worth 102 runs.

The Waikato Valley South visit to the batting crease was short and sharp, with the visitors dismissed for 43.

Jim van der Vorm who finished with 4/26, roared through the Waikato side's top order.

Carlos Price and Josh Ormrod also bowled superb line and length, and were rewarded with two wickets apiece.

The BOP Lakeland team was no less dominant against Poverty Bay, at Trident High School in Whakatane.

Poverty Bay took first use of the batting wicket and were removed for 129 in the 40th over.

Alistair Blackett led the way for the Bay side taking 4/20, with Hayze Perham grabbing three wickets for 24 runs.

Led by Alistair Blackett, who was another Bay player to carry his bat posting 70 not out, the Lakeland side cruised to victory for the loss of a solitary wicket.
