Work day starts with a bang for human cannonball

How many people can put their hands up and say they are a human cannonball who gets to travel the world with the circus?

Thirty-five-year-old Luis Daza Zarta is one of those people.

'I have always been involved in the circus since I was a child. I began doing the high wire before I found my passion to become a Human Cannonball when I was in Australia,” says Luis speaking to SunLive ahead of Weber Bros Circus show, which will be in Tauranga from September 24.

'I was offered the position because our owner wanted to implement it (the cannon) into the show and although i thought it was crazy! I thought WHY NOT? I have been doing it for a fair few years now and the adrenaline rush after each jump is still there.”

When asked what does being a human cannonball entail, Luis says it takes 'training, exercise and concentration”.

'It entails a lot of precision, timing and weight maintenance. The pressure used to shoot out of the cannon must be precise to your weight. Anything either side of the pressure can cause a very serious accidents.”

As the cannon is being lifted into place, Luis thinks of his family and gives thanks to god for keeping him safe every jump.

He also ensures everything is measured and set out right and accurate for landing.

The Weber Bros Circus will be performing at ASB Baypark from September 27 through to October 21.

This is the first time the circus has performed in New Zealand in six years.

During the adrenaline pumping, jam packed two hour show, people can expect Luis the Human Cannonball, Globe of Death, FMX Freestyle, Aerial Acts, Slapstick Comedy and so much more.

'I can't give everything away,” says Luis. 'But what I can promise, it is suitable for all ages and you definitely won't be disappointed.”
