‘Toot 4 support'. This is the message Tauranga Court staff are holding up during their two-hour long strike today.

A handful of staff members are on the corner of Cameron Road and Mclean Street outside the court house, waving signs and flags gathering the public's attention.

The PSA members at the Ministry of Justice are taking strike action between 10.30am and 12.30 pm in a move to highlight ‘fundamental pay issues'.

PSA delegate Paula Davis says they are striking for fair pay.

'We're one of the lowest paid and there is a large gender pay gap that we would like to see closed, as opposed to it widening even more.

'We are also striking for our security staff to be paid more as well. Currently, a lot of them only just making the living wage.”

Paula says the reason for striking is not only for fair pay, but "it's for fair pay after nine years of being under paid and undervalued".

A PSA delegate from Tauranga says they have been in negotiations for a few months now, so strike action has been brewing for a little while.

'We are still hoping that we will reach an agreement. We have been bargaining in good faith and it has led to this point. It's an action that we are able to take.”

Amazing that everyone and his brother are suddenly going on strike for higher wages, when you apply for a job you know what the pay rate is! if you dont like it go somewhere else, you should think yourself lucky you have a job! maybe us pensioners should organise a nation wide 'strike' to get our pensions (wages) raised so that we could have a decent life style especially those of us paying exorbitant rents in the private sector .

Well paid

The “living wage” is what is needed to live a basic decent life according to the definition. So what is your problem with it? Your job is basic to be blunt. Previous comment is bang on - you applied for it because you thought/knew it was the right level for your ability, qualifications and skills. You knew the wage level. If you think you are better than that job, go get a better paid one. I’m getting sick of all these strikers.

Recently was on Jury Service...........they could not organise an evening at a brewery. Maybe if there was a decent days work they might deserve a small increase.

Tend to agree with other comments............
