Bayfair’s $115m development brings new brands

Construction is currently underway on the new development.

With its $115 million development project now underway, exciting details are emerging about the fashion, gift and beauty-centric first phase of the new-look Bayfair Shopping Centre.

The centre is set to unveil a new precinct in November.

In a what is being described as a coup for the Bay of Plenty, beauty retailer Mecca Maxima will be one of the key retailers anchoring an expanded mix of fashion and gift related specialty stores, including Platypus Shoes and Redcurrent. In a sneak peek of what is yet to come, Mirrou and yd. will be opening in the existing centre ahead of the first phase launch.

Additionally, Bayfair is proud to announce the addition of Barkers with its new Groom Room barbershop concept, Colette by Colette Hayman, and Stirling Sports with a brand new store concept, a first in New Zealand.

'We are thrilled to be introducing these new brands to our shoppers - and the wider region as part of our $115 million development," says Bayfair's centre manager Steve Ellingford.

"They are among the most desirable brands in Australasia and they have their pick of where to go – by coming into Bayfair they are signalling our status as a real destination of choice, with a more sophisticated and diverse offering than ever before.”

Australian beauty retailer MECCA Brands has been expanding its presence in New Zealand over the past two years, with the new Bayfair store set to join a portfolio that includes stores in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, as well as an online store at meccabeauty.co.nz.

The Mecca Maxima concept store stocks a large range of global cosmetics, skincare, hair, body and fragrance brands.

The completed Bayfair development will present a new-look retail offer with an additional 50 specialty stores, including an expanded premium fashion mix, an alfresco dining precinct, a new concept Countdown supermarket, and the Bay of Plenty's largest cinema complex, United Cinemas, with seven screens and more than 1300 seats.

The investment in the development by Bayfair's owners represents a significant measure of confidence in the centre, its management and the region.

Previously announced new additions to the centre include United Cinemas and Little Creatures gastropub, with further announcements on the development to follow in due course.

I was about to write how little this will contribute to the well being of the community.... but I'm bored with this already. Note there is nothing of value from this development, other than wealth generation.

Why am I not surprised to see someone being negative? If people aren’t complaining about nothing to do in Tauranga they’re complaining at the prospect of being offered more options. I’m really excited about the newly minted Bayfair even though I’m far from wealthy. What you consider “nothing of value” will provide employment, opportunities and fun.....for people with positive attitudes, like to enjoy life and don’t think just in terms of themselves. The world doesn’t just revolve around you “red”, but maybe you should get out into it and learn what getting a life feels like.
