A 16-year-old has died following an incident in Opotiki on the weekend.
Two boys were injured in a fall on the old Opotiki School grounds n Saturday at about 8.40pm.
They were taken to hospital, one in a critical condition and one in a serious condition, says a police spokesperson.
"Last night one of the boys died from his injuries.
"He was Te Hawiki Hona Kiri-Te Amo (known as Hawiki). He was 16 years-old from Christchurch.
"Our thoughts are with Hawiki's family and friends at this difficult time."
His death has been referred to the Coroner.
