Three teams chase top honours

Three Bay of Plenty Primary cricket teams are experiencing all the highs and lows of tournament finals cricket this week.

Two Bay of Plenty Primary representative teams have unbeaten records as they enter the final three rounds of the Northern Districts competition being played in Hamilton.

Bay of Plenty Coastland has posted solid victories against Poverty Bay and Waikato Valley South.

In round two they put together a totally dominant performance defeating the Waikato side.

After smashing 316/3, they removed the opposition for just 43.

Ruben Clinton anchored the Bay side's turn at bat with an outstanding 123 not out, with Jim van der Vorm taking four wickets.

The Bay Lakeland representatives have been just as impressive as their Coastland counterparts.

While their first match was rained out, they posted 245/5 in their turn at bat.

In round two, the Lakeland side dismissed Poverty Bay for 129, then cruised to a nine wicket win.

Alistair Blackett performed with both bat and ball, taking 4//20, then carried his bat to finish with an unbeaten 70 runs.

Tauranga Intermediate boys' cricket team earned a ranking in the top four New Zealand Primary cricket schools in the country when they defeated Belmont Intermediate from Auckland in the Northern Region New Zealand (formerly Milo) Cup final.

The Northern Region victory gave the Tauranga school a berth in the New Zealand Cup national final to be played in Palmerston North starting today.

The national tournament brings together the top four primary teams from four regions throughout the country in head to head competition to find the best primary school cricket team in New Zealand.
