Tauranga Airport parking fees to increase

The changes to Tauranga Airport parking fees will come into effect on December 1.

Tauranga Airport parking fees will be changing from December 1.

'We will need to increase the amount of parking we have available at the airport to accommodate for the growth in passenger volumes. To fund this we are changing the daily rate for short and long-term car parking, says Ray Dumble, Airport Manager.

'Airport user fees fund airport services and improvements. The increased daily parking rates will fund future car park extensions and maintenance.

The short-term daily fee will increase from $10 to $15 with a maximum fee of $90 for seven days.

Daily fees for long-term parking will increase from $10 to $14 with a maximum fee of $55 for one week.

The lost ticket fee for all parking will be $90, up from $50.

The new Tauranga Airport parking fees are now similar to Rotorua ($50 long-stay) and less than most domestic airports around NZ e.g. Queenstown ($60 for weekly long-term) and Hamilton ($65 for weekly long-term).

Greed or need

Greed or need Tauranga City Council. Parking revenue is a 'cash cow' and I'm struggling to believe you need a 50% increase in fees to meet future parking needs.

Have to AGREE with Murry Guy

Increase the parking space and let the increased space pay for the cost!!! 50% increases in costs CANNOT be justified !!!

I'm surprised it took so long

for TCC to see the cash cow and accompanying benefactors it has right on its doorstep. Travellers have virtually NO alternative but to take cars to the airport. TCC needs to provide decent bus services to and from the airport at all hours, instead of just thinking of the money and how they can line their pockets quickly! They need to build more parking? Fine, we understand. Make THAT parking more expensive with the existing parking facilities costs staying the same. Now that is justifying their 'excuse' for an increase, not having everyone pay more because we want to build more parking.
